Junior Chess Tournaments in Bath
Competitive chess in a friendly, well-organised environment for children aged 6 to 18. Whether it’s your first tournament or your tenth, you are welcome here.

Bath Junior Chess Club runs its own rapidplay tournaments, giving young players the chance to test their skills, gain competition experience and have a brilliant day of chess. Our events are designed to be inclusive and enjoyable for all levels, from first-timers to seasoned competitors.
All participants receive a certificate. Trophies and medals are awarded to top finishers.

Date: Saturday, 26th September 2026
Venue: Widcombe Junior School, Archway Street, Bath BA2 4JG
Format:
- 6 rounds
- 15 minutes on the clock + 5 second increment per move
Schedule:
- Players arrive: 09:30
- Games commence: 10:00
- Prize giving (approx): 16:00
Entry Fee: £15.00 per player – payable online at the time of booking.
Age Categories: U7 · U9 · U11 · U14 · U18
Entry Deadline: Monday 21st September 2026 (late entries will not be accepted.)
What to Expect on the Day
Every child who competes receives a certificate, whilst trophies and medals are awarded to top finishers. We want every player to leave feeling proud of what they achieved.
Refreshments are available from the kitchen on site, and there are several cafés and restaurants within easy walking distance.
Getting There: Widcombe Junior School is a 10-minute walk from Bath’s train and bus station. The Southgate multi-storey car park is next to the station if you’re driving. Please note: parking at the venue is very limited, and spaces open up for a nearby rugby club from 3 pm.
Who Can Enter?
Our tournaments are open to junior players from any club, or no club at all. You don’t need to be a Bath Junior Chess Club member to register. Players from across the UK are welcome.
We ask that all participants are registered with, or in the process of joining, the English Chess Federation (ECF).

This event is independently organised and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Widcombe Junior School. By registering, parents and guardians accept full responsibility for their child’s well-being during the event.
